SOUND FOR FEATURE FILM
 

Producing a film is about gathering talents to tell a story. Under time and budget constraints, we want to make sure we get the most out of these talents. We want to make sure they can focus on the creative part as much as possible, rather than wasting time on technicalities and troubleshooting.

This course is aimed at helping you streamline your workflow from the recording of sound on the set to the final mixing stage. It will focus on the technological and human parameters in the chain. The goal is that you understand what is the technology out there, and how you can use it to serve your needs.

What will we be covering?

From pre-production to post production, we will talk about how to chose, test, plan and prepare your file based on workflow.

Typically:
Production Sound (on set) - dailies - sound during the picture editing process - assembly - dialog editing - reconform to new picture - ADR cueing and recording delivering files to the mixing stage encoding the final mix/stems for delivery.

One of the focus will be on the different options to use metadata and timecode properly. How to achieve a painless and optimal conform when getting the first picture cut while being able to use the full quality of the original recordings.

Topic covers: Timecode strategies, slates, sound reports, BWF and iXML metadata, EDLs, OMFs, AAFs, assemblies, reconform, ADR, remote ADR.

Pre Requisite...

A good understanding of sound recording and editing, and a previous experience in film production is desirable, though the course is is accesible to anyone.

Trainer Profile

Jeremy Rodeschini has spent years in the audio world both in the technical and creative sides of the industry. Now a Principal Expert at Avid Technology in the UK and independent editor, he used to be sound editor and re-recording mixer at Technicolor Theatrical Services in Bangkok. Jeremy also worked for Merging Technologies as a Product Specialist and worldwide technical support for Pyramix and Vcube.

He also has extensive experience in the music and live sound industry. Jeremy believes in people. He enjoys interaction and active workshops to share knowledge with other experts of the industry.
